@sazeraeI work in an engineering field now, recent graduate. My department literally let us use ChatGPT on exams because they knew full well it made completely incorrect findings about problems. Some disciplines (especially statics and structural resolution, think civil engineers) may have some parts at risk, but even then generative AI is nowhere near close to eliminating engineering.
AI fails to create original solutions, and engineers make their money because we need to create unique solutions to a specific problem set. Much like how the pure sciences use it to supplement, engineering will likely do the same in the near future.
