Leaving aside the specific analogies and disanalogies between artificial neural networks and biological neural networks, you're saying something that most experts agree with: AI does not need to be sentient to be dangerous. It only needs to be highly capable.
Current AI systems develop goals that we don't want them to have, and no one knows how to robustly fix that problem. It's a really deep problem with AI as a concept that occurs no matter the architecture (at least, of those that have been thought of so far).
