Keeping it in a box doesn't solve the problem. Even if we did it could find ways to connect to the internet once is smart enough or someone will eventually do it (someone with good or bad intentions). The only way to solve the alignment problem is to use heuristic imperatives and control the AI via a DAO system.
Check David Shapiro's work. He is miles ahead in thinking/solving this problem.
All I see from other people is gloom and doom scenarios and little work on a solid framework to solve the Moloch problem.
