Well, Sanderson's argument is that there is a difference between humans and machines and that laws give (and should give) humans special protection over other things and I agree with him. Would you be in favour of a robot that's faster than a human competing at the Olympics? No, because that's not fair and because it's not the point of the Olympics. Or how about we just get rid of all the women's categories? Then it's not a very fair competition anymore either.
The scale is what makes it different and it is enough justification to treat machines differently from individual humans. We also have laws to ensure fair market competition, so why not expand copyright with that in mind?
