I think gut feeling is both under- and overestimated at the same time. Because I believe it gives us important information that would be foolish to ignore. However the information we get is about ourselves, not about the world. Gut feeling tells us how comfortable we are with something. However I wouldn't bet on it as a decision making compass because sometimes this very quality might steer you towards the wrong path. Gut feeling only helps you when you know yourself. And even then, it can never tell you what the future will bring. Nothing can. I think we grossly underestimate the impact of chance and luck on the outcome of our decisions. Basically the real world is a complex system with billions of individual actors in it that somehow make history with their combined actions, this system is by definition chaotic and unpredictable. I think an awful lot of people sell outcome/survivor bias (they were simply lucky) packaged as insight/strategy (they have cracked the code).
