The “slow and expensive” point doesn’t refute what she’s saying. “Art is accessible” doesn’t mean “professional results are cheap and instant,” it means nobody is stopping someone from learning and making things. If the rebuttal is “yeah but swirling shit doesn’t sell,” then you’re not arguing access, you’re arguing marketable polish, which is exactly what AI shortcuts.
“AI exists, adapt” also isn’t an argument, it’s a shrug. We regulate inevitable things all the time: cars exist, so we made seatbelts; drugs exist, so we regulate distribution; the internet exists, so we made IP law. “Exists” has never meant “therefore ethical” or “therefore immune from rules.” And you kind of give the game away at the end: “AI has stolen everyone’s styles,” then your fix is “artists should invent new styles and protect them.” That’s not a fix unless you’re also talking about actual guardrails (opt-in datasets, licensing/compensation, labeling). Otherwise it’s just shifting the burden onto creators while the systems built on their work keep scaling.
