For the vast majority of those who want to make it career, it never has been. Countless bands try to hit it big in music. Countless game developers (especially since the early 2010s) tried to get going and failed. Countless artists, who share the same style as others, will fail and at most make supplementary income.
This isn't really an issue outside of ones arbitrary principles on the matter. If you want to only purchase forms of art from people you know don't use AI, then that is fine, but there is nothing morally wrong with the AI generated stuff. It is just another tool, like factories.
