Do you mean "AI" broadly or specifically LLMs? Those are not the same conversation.
Also, "futurists didn't expect it to grow this fast." I'm a lawyer. 1) What is a futurist? 2) Is it a credentialed discipline? 3) Can I subpoena one? 4) What standard of proof do they work under? Because from where I sit, futurism is closer to punditry than science. I've reviewed AI cognitive research papers. They pretend to invite psychology then call their bs - AI perfume.
More importantly, none of this addresses resource constraints. Hard physical limits, energy, compute, water, rare materials, human capital. These are not speculative. They predate AI and they did not disappear. Those limits apply to humans and non-human systems alike, before we even introduce AI into the equation.
