Of course too much pessimism is a problem but you seem to have missed the actual problem here.
When Oppenheimer talked about the bomb there was another thing they spoke about that most people don’t mention - when they decided to do the first nuclear bomb test - the scientists believed it was potentially possible to blow up the whole planet. They didn’t know what was going to happen. They still pressed the button.
This AI issue is the next bomb and it is most certainly a good comparison.
