At least big tech is so competitive that they would prioritize more productivity over lower expenses.
However there are few points to consider:
If AI ends up doing the technical research, the reasoning, planing and implementation. What would humans do?
Possibly market studies, advertising, talking with the client, paying up services, filling requirements forms for the project.
Basically all the work that programmers are not good at it, or even dislike.
The SWE profile may change so much that current programmers may end up having a hard time adapting, and the most skillful may loose their edge.
