We are. The human brain is a brilliant predictive machine. People are as stuck in their own loops as machines are, and more often than not people fall prey to illogical thinking, lack of memory, failure in chain of thought, etc. I don’t see much difference between the average person and the best LLMs today. The real wrinkle is that AI can’t learn from its current moment of inference; training and inference are mutually exclusive in LLMs, whereas in the brain neurons are inherently changed and updated upon each firing, paired firing, and grouped firing. We can learn in the moment, AI still has to be trained intentionally afterwards. But again, humans don’t learn perfectly on the first try either. I don’t see why we expect our AI tools to be superhuman, when we can’t even reach that ourselves.
