He did say AI empathy would not be a visceral reaction in the body, but that cognition might be inextricably linked to emotion ie. to understand why someone would empathise in a situation is akin to empathy itself. It could be that intelligence is more directly related allied to morality, and that a super intelligent machine might have a much more nuanced moral world.
