Try 6-10 years away. The Tesla electric cars can ALREADY drive autonomously.....TODAY. It's already happening. There is a man named Andrew Yang running for president whose entire platform is about addressing the millions of jobs that are going to be lost starting IN THE NEXT PRESIDENTIAL TERM - - particularly truck drivers. The train is coming, friend. I'm sorry, but it is rolling down the tracks at full steam. It WILL happen. And it will happen a LOT sooner than you believe.
Now, the jobs that will go first will be those cross country drivers. The ones who are limited by the number of hours they can drive. The autonomous trucks will do very well on the open interstate, but have problems on city streets in the beginning, so the thought is, local drivers will still have jobs for a while as they take over these autonomous trucks once they get into the city. So, if you're a local guy, you probably don't have anything to worry about for a while, but if you're a guy who is on the road and away from home for weeks or months at a time on the interstate, your job will be replaced very soon.
