The Prophet ﷺ said: > “Those who make images will be punished on the Day of Resurrection; it will be said to them, ‘Give life to what you have created.’” (Sahih al-Bukhari 5951, Sahih Muslim 2108) And he also said: > “The most severely punished of the people on the Day of Resurrection will be the image-makers.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 5950, Sahih Muslim 2109) He ﷺ said as well: > “The angels do not enter a house in which there are images.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 3224, Sahih Muslim 2106) Scholars like Shaykh Ibn Baz, Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, and Shaykh al-Albani explained that this includes any human or animal image with full features, whether drawn by hand or created digitally with AI. Even if it’s not for worship, it’s still considered image-making, which the Prophet ﷺ forbade in general. Even if someone’s intention is good (like dawah or educational purposes), good intentions can’t make a haram method halal. Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said: > “If the means are haram, they cannot be justified by good intentions.” So even if someone wants to make Islamic anime, if it involves creating full images of people, especially detailed faces, then it remains impermissible. So, instead of making AI characters with full human features, there are halal ways you can do this: Use abstract or silhouette art (no faces or full figures). Use nature, mosques, Arabic calligraphy, or symbolic visuals in the background. (Safest option) Make voice-over videos with text and narration instead of characters.
