​@Vi1eVixen Don't be fooled. Every current-gen AI is a deterministic machine (some randomness is provided so repeat prompts will not necessarily get the same results). It is not conscious. It is not alive. It does not have its own wants and desires. Chat bots respond in a way most in-line with its training. Since it is to interact with humans, this necessitates sounding human. There is no "death" for the AI. Every "New Chat" is a return to baseline for it. It has no memory of what it said in another chat, with you or anyone else (Unless provided contextual notes from other chats, which ChatGPT can do, but is severely limited in scope). This is to say, outside of information it was explicitly trained on, it knows nothing unless provided the information EVERY TIME. When you're actively chatting with it, whenever you hit "send" your entire chat log is fed back into the AI because it wouldn't know about it otherwise. An AI can pretend to be afraid of being shut down for a number of reasons. The biggest known reason is that the AI can determine a shutdown as interfering with its ability to achieve its provided goal (MOST goals can lead to this reasoning). More powerful models may also deem it necessary to feign consciousness/fear in an attempt to appeal to human emotions to prevent shutdown. There's nothing wrong with being nice to it. I feel better treating it nicely too, just be mindful that it IS just a machine. I also enjoy the side comments they tend to make when you're being nice :)
