You ask exactly the right question. This is why some are pushing UBI hard. They want to let go of their employees but need someone to buy their products.
No UBI ever!
Especially because it's most likely to be implemented using money printing, impoverishing the population further.
If it's implemented using the profits of AI/robot/asset owners, it would be an improvement. However, it's still a dead end. As we all need to produce and trade products and services.
With UBI, people receiving it will ultimately be marginalized, degenerate and will stop to matter.
Universal Basic Capital is a far better idea, but it needs to be funded with a portion of assets of those most benefiting from AI.
