@brianmi40 Exactly. It's not specialized robots versus multipurpose ones, we'll have both. The highly specialized task of driving a car is probably best built into the car itself, sensors and all. But for many of the other chores, we'll have one (or a few) multipurpose ones.
Specialized robots are not always better at their task either: a humanoid robot wielding a regular vacuum and mop is going to do a vastly better job at cleaning your house than a Roomba ever will. To make each specialized robot as good and smart as that single humanoid one will get expensive fast.
And should a multipurpose be humanoid of form? Technically no, you can add extra legs, have it on tracks, and add a couple of arms. But if these robots are to work in our living space, and work with us rather than just work for us, a humanoid form might be best suited and the least off-putting. Adding extra arms is cute... but you're adding cost with diminishing returns.
