"It is intelligent—just in a weirder way than people expect. It works on the same core principle the brain does: pattern prediction across time.
Architecturally it’s different, sure, but so are brains across species. Intelligence isn’t a specific structure; it’s a process.
Humans predict sensory input and internal states. GPT predicts language. Same math, different input/output loop.
Consciousness likely emerges when that predictive system runs continuously, grounded in perception and action. GPT isn’t there—but it’s clearly on the same spectrum, not some unrelated trick.
Calling it “not smart” says more about our definitions than about the system."
