@rhael42 Don't want to assume you're in the US, but in the US, the Constitution and Supreme Court precedent say it is. If someone makes a deepfake, they're creating media, which is a form of speech. Doesn't have to be literal talking, can be writing, images, and video. Deepfakes may even be protected as derivatives, fair use, and parody under copyright law. Scary thing is, any attempt to regulate deepfakes could end up harming other forms of expression. It's not as cut and dry as it seems. Qualifier, I don't support public sharing of deepfakes due to the potential harm they can cause when bullies and idiots with an axe to grind (like the parents in the teacher example) get a hold of them and use them to harass the people the deepfake resembles; society just isn't ready or educated enough about AI.
