As stated, Soares has seen and interacted with various AI, chatbots, LLMs, etc, and has develop a similar parasocial-relationship that many form with their favorite youtubers, comics, or tv/video game characters. I have experienced this as well. My first AI interaction was all that way back with Eviebot. My friends and I spent hours playing around with and trying to predict what its responses would be. In a "sense" the Eviebot chat program became the target of our bullying. Not only did we treat "her" as a person (or more accurately; adjacent to a person) but our actions also likely tainted the algorithm, leading to the more volatile and incel-like (a term more relevant in this decade, thanks 4-chan/8-chan!) Eviebot of 2011 and 2012.
