I work in the field. With few exceptions, if it sounds like a movie plot, it is fictional. e.g. Terminator is just a movie.
The threats from AI are from humans using them, such as surveillance, advanced scams, autonomous weapons, profiting from harm to vulnerable populations, unemployment due to dislocation of certain professions, such as copy writers, paralegals, call centre workers.
The best benefits from AI are in the medical field, and the benefits to humanity there are enormous.
