The thing is, AI right now is just a huge set of data. So yeah what you're afraid of is already happening, but it is not conscious yet, because these sets of data still work on a preset algorithm or program. It's not the algorithm that's making people feel scared of AI in it's current state, it's the unbearably large set of data which results in pretty spot on accuracy. So don't worry, I doubt that in it's current form the AI will become a threat to the humankind.
