AI puts words together in such a way that they form a poem. If that's not writing poetry, what is?
"It mimics" — so what? Humans mimic what we've seen too. We take ideas and styles from poems we've read, mix them up in our head, and spit out something new. In the AI case, you call it tasteless glop, but in the human case, you find it valuable. Based on what though? Bias?
There have been blind tests where people rate AI and human poems without knowing which are which, and people show no consistent preference for human-written poems. Face it — not only can AI write poetry, it can write pretty good poetry.
