The upper limit of AI is the limit of information that exists. If man begins to rely only on AI, that is where the level of intelligence will cease to improve. Surely you can't believe that man has discovered and knows everything I life and the universe that there is to know. That would be raising the level of AI to the level of God which is impossible because only God knows everything, thinks beyond human capacity and does so outside of time. AI will never be able to do that because it is constrained by the limit of human intelligence. It's just faster at it.
