That's interesting, since the problem with automation has never been "a robot plumber"
Automation for a plumber is shark bite connectors. It's apps that allow you to call a plumber to your house in a matter of minutes, with no ability to vet the quality of the plumber that shows up, with the plumber dependent on tips to survive.
The real problem with automation is that it isn't an object we can point to that replaced a worker, it's a series of innovations and short cuts that will often make the quality of that service fail over time, and reducing the price people are willing to pay for those services.
Why would I call the certified plumber that's going to charge me 300-500 dollars to fix the leak under my sink in a week or two when I can open plUber on my phone and have a plumber out to my house for under 20 bucks to fix my sink, have them do a half ass job because you'll tip them the same no matter if they get under there with copper pipe and solder or just jam shark bites on some pex and move on.
