Lots of rare materials are being replaced with atomically perfect structures made with common materials, but come with unique properties when arranged so perfectly. Graphene being one example- batteries will be replacing most of their rare materials and using arranged carbon atoms that make for better properties than the rare materials had. AI will accelerate the discovery of these material/structural combinations and replace most things with common materials over the next few decades. And that is to say nothing of mining asteroids in the future for material needs and stellar construction.
