You make a good point in your third paragraph about using AI as a tool or thinking partner rather than a shortcut.
I also think AI can be a helpful tool to individualize to a student's particular learning style and enhance what is taught in the classroom by the teacher. It would be almost impossible for a single teacher to teach in the learning style that works best for each individual student in their class. If a student, for whatever reason, is reluctant to ask a question in class, they may use an AI tool to do so on their own, resulting in a learning opportunity. Or, a student could use AI tools to enhance or reinforce what they learn by creating tutoring opportunities - such as "create an outline about..", or "create a studyguide for ..." or whatever areas they are struggling with. I think it can actually help students who don't know how or where to start to give them a jumping off point or guide them on how to organize thoughts.
