We are asking the wrong people to do the wrong job. People who's sole career is make advances in AI will do that job. Policy making is not the job of tech people. It is the job of the congress to make policies, pass regulations and laws. Now, in a true democracy, scientist's job will be to make the people opinion about the pros and cons of the technology and then the people will elect the leaders to reflect their wishes to regulate the technology. But that is not happening.
