@wing3789But what OP is saying here is that “please” and “thank you” are only affirming to US in terms of behavior because of our cultural conditioning, but that they would only affirm politeness-coded responses, not the utility of the results. It’s the difference not between being polite versus rude, but indirect versus direct in terms of communication style. If you want your LLM to generate succinct, directly communicated results of a factual nature, give it directions whose style matches that you want in the output, which includes whether things are stated explicitly, implicitly, or simply not said because they model has a sun-algorithm that effectively acts as a contextual filter, even though there is no CONSCIOUSNESS driving that decision. These models are very fuzzy machines, but still machines nonetheless.
