A chess AI isn't conscious, but it always wins at chess. It always outmaneuvers The absolute best humans, every single time.
AI systems are being trained where the chessboard is the real world as a whole, and they behave as though they have goals. I think they still aren't conscious. That isn't going to stop them from outmaneuvering humanity.
