Sort of, LLMs need to be fed hundreds (or thousands) of stories about a topic before they "learn" that topic.
They can't infer things from a single piece of content like a human can.
Say I didn't know what a carpenter was, I could read one description of the day in the life of a carpenter and learn what time they start, if they have an apprentice, probably what their favourite tools are and why, what safety precautions they take on the job they do that day, probably something about the kind of carpentry that person does compared to all the other kinds of work out there etc. LLMs can't do that until they've ingested a LOT of stories about carpenters.
LLMs also can't learn in a linear manner they way we can. A kid would probably learn the second or third time a person with a tool belt and a hi vis vest was pointed out as a carpenter what a carpenter looks like and then add to their facts about carpenters as they experienced them. LLMs don't have that single line of experience learning or ability to learn by inference.
