Accounting is getting more and more automated but we'll always need a human to check that everything is working correctly, handle exceptions, etc, and in smaller companies much fewer things will be automated and they still very much need humans because sure a machine could do a lot of that work but it's so diverse that it would cost too much money and it's only worth it in the big companies that can afford it. It's easier for smaller companies to hire a human who knows how it works, can answer any questions and can fix their own mistakes.
I've dealt with automated systems before and it's a pain when they do something wrong and you can't fix it yourself cause then you have to contact the company supplying the service, convince them that the problem is on their side, and often wait at least a few days for them to get back to you while you sit on your thumbs
