Hot take: there have always been two kinds of dev, and one has just become more apparent with the existence of ChatGPT.
The first type has always had appreciation for programming/CS as a craft, is always trying to improve, thinks ahead, and enjoys the process of problem solving/design. Principles and conventions are not considered limiting or too rigid. He will never say "I don't need to know how to reverse a binary search tree because I won't use it!"
The second type has always relied on the most immediately straightforward approach. If it works now, it is good to go. If something else needs to be added later, he will pile more on top of it then. And so on. He can only think several seconds into the future. And right now, ChatGPT is the most immediately straightforward approach.
I think the second type never deserved to be in the field, but they are still incredibly common
