As a former translator I can just add that "back in my days" we never thought of online translating tools as a "plague of the profession" because they were so shitty, no one took it seriously. Now however I can see how it feels scary to some, but the nuances of languages are just not possible to translate by an AI. Especially when you try with the non-european languages vs the european ones. Companies will not replace professionals with a website. The AI art tho (also from an artist's and art consumer's point of view), I find way more difficult to simplify by saying "it's visibly good/bad" like translations. Because it often can be theft based while looking good and it will be way more often used by private individuals (while let's say before the online tools, I private person most probably would have not hire a professional translator to translate e.g. a casual letter in the first place). So, what I'm trying to say, I'm not a fan of the AI translation vs AI art comparison because I think as much as there are the similarities in how professionals fear it, the users of these tools use it for much different purposes and AI art is easier to enjoy/use often and not think of the ethics and consequences.
