@sundancer7381 Seriously? You are mixing real with exaggeration. In some U.S. states with truly deregulated electricity markets, consumers can choose third-party suppliers, and it’s true that some people end up paying more if they select variable or poorly structured contracts. However, deregulation does NOT automatically double bills, and many customers remain on regulated default rates set by utilities under state oversight. Utilities cannot arbitrarily raise prices; rates must be reviewed and approved by state public utility commissions. Which means it’s NOT actually fully deregulated.
It’s also true that data centers use large amounts of electricity and sometimes negotiate special contracts, but there is no clear evidence that this directly causes residential bills to spike or double. Utility cost recovery, such as for infrastructure upgrades, fuel price changes, or grid improvements, is regulated and publicly reviewed. The idea of widespread hidden contracts or a nationwide legal shift allowing utilities to secretly pass data center costs onto consumers is not supported by any evidence whatsoever. Rate increases are typically driven by fuel costs, infrastructure investment, and market conditions rather than a single industry like data centers. So you are 0 for 2.
