It is not mergin it with someone elses art. That is not how it works. AI models would be hundreds of terrabytes big if that were the case. A model is just a couple gigs big. All the AI does is breaking reference images down into noise so it learns the steps to create something. Every image it produces is completely unique and not a copy. It is literally doing the exact same thing a human is doing when they study art by using reference images. If you use sam does arts images to draw something yourself learning from his art then you are also not stealing anything. Its funny how so many artist don't want to understand this. Yeah I do have empathy since you feel threatend that you have now more competition. But the art market is already way too oversaturated, even without ai there are just too many artists that think they can make a living just with their drawing skills alone but that is already super naive. I only draw for fun as a hobby, that was always the case, I always thought it is ridicoulus that so many people think they can make a living with art. Terrible market. Even the industry itself will not give a damn about your skills, they only care about fast results for their clients. That is why photobashing is so big in the industry.
It is one of the first fields that ai is breaking into and showing off its power. A lot more jobs and fields will face the same problem in the coming decades. But you can't stop it anyways. Just like people complained about photoshop and photobashing, people complain about ai. It won't change a thing.
Ai also will not replace artists. There are so many things ai can't do and will not be able to do in a long time. Sure if all you do as an artist is draw pretty portraits of women then you might need to think about trying to adapt. Use ai to your advantage. Because other people will. It is just a tool like photoshop. If you utilize it properly you will be able to create amazing things with it.
But you don't even have to use ai at all and still be able to compete with it easily. Be a storyteller for example. I mean just look at this channel here, all the videos are just images of pretty girls looking pretty. There are already billions of images like that in the world. Super boring. We are oversatured with it. There is only a small amount of artists that can make a proper living with this type of art and that is because they are good at marketing. Most people already think they just need to be able to draw well and magically money will follow, that is not how capitalism works though. But that is a different topic.
I have not seen a single good argument against ai from the art community. It is all just a bunch of people being scared. Understandable, sure but also naive and pointless.
