Because with a tool - pencil, paint brush, stylus, ect - you are personally putting in the effort to create the product yourself. The product is a result of your work.
With generative AI, you're telling the machine what to create and it's the machine that puts in the effort to create the product. The product is a result the machine's work, not yours.
Imagine you tell me to draw a circle with two dots and a U inside it. Even though you came up with the idea to make a smiley face, I'm credited for actually drawing it. You can't receive credit for my work. Generative AI functions the same way.
