People can still become blacksmiths, many commenters talked about more niche and expensive vocations they do that most people don't learn. The artform dies out when it's difficult/expensive to do. Art, so long as paper and a utensil are affordable/available will still be done because people want to. More so than other vocations that died out or are extremely niche due to the industrial revolution or other pressures.
Furthermore, art itself was only for people who could afford supplies. The starving artist is a romanticized idea of the tortured soul. Most artists were quite wealthy. Very likely because of far lower competition in people for the craft. And honestly, most artists in general if they are heard of at all are doing quite well.
Most of the anti-AI is worry about losing that source of income. It almost has nothing to do with integrity of art, but people who either are new artists or not artists but support artists will parrot "soul - feel - meaning" in human only crafted art, with the exception of digital programs, photography or other tools so long as it's not AI. I want someone to define the point where it is tool usage and not a "cheat".
