When you say you were making your own AIs as a preteen, do you mean you were coding the more hard-coded algorithmic AIs, or were you training neural networks?
Asking because when most people talk about AIs nowadays, they talk about neural networks, but making a more simple AI just following preset directions seem more in-line with what you were describing.
