She went into this a bit in her previous video on the topic. But in essence, nightshade adds an extra layer on top of the art that is intended to be hard for humans to notice at all, but impossible for AI to see through. The whole point of it is to try and be invisible to humans, so that you can still post your art like normal. But at the same time not need to worry about the art helping AI models grow. Nightshade has some easy to understand notes about this on their f.a.q page (I would highly recommend looking at them), but there are a few papers popping up about this if you really want to get into the nitty gritty of it. One thing to mention is that nightshade primarily focuses on image generators rather than image classifiers. Current AI image detection/classification has no problem with nightshade, but image generators use entirely different algorithms that nightshade does work against.
