At the end, I agree with you Hank. It is very easy to be convinced when listening to Nate. But I don't agree that the outcomes are so necessarily bad, and I can't help but feel there's an amount of... mysticism involved in predicting that AI is going to become something greater than us. It sort of reminds me of retro sci-fi and its concept of the "Atomic Future", that this new thing will forever change us and how we do everything. I wonder if written language received the same kind of hype and fear in its infancy.
I don't think it's a bad thing to have the conversation though, and I don't at all think Yudkowsky or Soares (whom I was unfamiliar with) are bad people.
