+David Webb According to records, by the end of last year self-driving cars travelled roughly 5 million miles in total. That's hardly comparable to over 3 trillion miles travelled by regular drivers in the US per year, isn't it?
Also have to take in consideration the fact that the auto-pilot will disengage if some unforseen circumstances on the road arise. The autonomous cars thing is still in a big beta test stage, because neither the software nor the city infrastructure is ready, yet. And there will be more casualties before the final product reaches maturity, same as there was dead test pilots and crashed experimental planes, before flying became the safest form of transport.
