Agreed. These are facts. As much as many want to "believe the PowerPoint" (that's now an actual meme in corporate IT), the fact is that the AI necessary to automate even a small percentage of driving jobs is a long way off. Decades. Maybe a century. My guess is they'll re-implement fixed-rail trolley systems in some cities and claim the automated cars fulfill this prediction. Technology is not magic, as much as some may want you to think it is. It's science. Mostly really boring, tedious science at that. Millions of lines of code implementing a mountain of decision trees reacting to the input of an untold number of sensors. Even when they get it right, the cost of implementation and maintenance will continue to be more expensive than using humans to do the same job. Of course that won't prevent the government and big corporations from showering all kinds of money on AI "research", especially when the principals authorizing that spending are heavily invested in the field.
