The only time I've used AI art for something is reference for something else. 2 characters I'm working on right now were originally AI art that I've had another artist clean up and draw in their style. I'm horrible at explaining what I want from an art commission. However, looking up something someone has made in AI saves time in that aspect and helps me get where I want my artists to be sooner. They still have free reign to do whatever they want with what I give them as reference.
