University has become something I loath because of AI. The students all use ChatGPT for assignments, often just copy pasting the lecturer's question as a prompt and copy pasting the AI's answer without even reading it. Even when lecturer's ask for the student personal opinion, they ask ChatGPT. Students are outsourcing their own opinion.
What's worse is that the lecturer's are trying to adapt to this, giving a lot more heavy assignments that matches the pace of how long it'll take to do it with AI, sometimes in the hopes that the more workload the students get the more chance they would still learn something somehow. Once I was doing an assignment and the lecturer saw that I didn't have an AI tab open, then he told me to just use AI so that I'll be done fast enough to keep up with the other kids.
It's impossible to try to actually learn something from university now, I'm basically paying a lot to sit in a class and prompt. This is specifically in my university though, I don't know how it is in other institutions, and I really hope my experience is not a common one.
I've misused AI too, the 'efficiency' is very addicting especially in periods where I have other stuff to prioritize over formal education. However I have mostly used AI as a tool to discuss my thoughts/ideas and develop them, which I thought was good at first until I realized that those discussions are often just echo chambers that keeps me stuck and overconfident in a single point. What's clear though is that AI makes people dependent, even as I realize all this I still haven't been able to fully stop using it (even outside of university demands). AI companies are ruining education, the people behind AI companies are ruining education.
