I've done private school, homeschool, & now public school with my kids. They are learning more adaptability this year than ever. Kids from all social classes in one school setting & some of these kids are MEAN! But, my kids are learning to discern friend from foe, being exposed to kids on different intellectual & physical capabilities, & learning how good it feels to excel. No, the academics are not nearly as rigorous as what we've had (they're all in gifted classes now), but social adaptability & learning to have confidence & speak up when no one else will is a lot harder when you're not in your protected bubble.
My biggest gripe of homeschooled kids, generally speaking, is they try too hard to please. It's wonderful to be nice & courteous to others, but you have to be an Alpha male or female to be able to stand up for yourself. I just don't see it with homeschooled kids. If yours are, great job, but there's a LOT of Beta homeschooled males!!
