The level of irresponsibility and minimum effort from both lawyers is what's the most damning. If they were in civil engineering, their building would have collapsed and killed hundreds. Instead, it's fun to watch a judge methodically eviscerate them for their outrageous dishonesty and negligence. This should absolutely end their careers and serve as an example to other lawyers who want to lie or negligently just copy their homework off the glue-sniffer sitting next to them. Set the precedent now, because as Devin said, this isn't just about ChatGPT, it's about lies, laziness, and stupidity. Abuse of the law can be horrifically ruinous to the person on the receiving end. Each time a lawyer is caught doing this, they have to pay dearly to remove the incentive.
