Big tech AI worker here. I almost feel like doing a PSA at this point, so here it goes...
Artificial Intelligence systems WILL NOT replace knowledge workers, they will however force the professions to change/evolve, rather quickly. This is what you're noticing right now and it only feels like "elimination" because execs are using the AI hype to trim their respective workforces (and not just because a lot of companies over-hired during COVID, btw).
What we call LLMs cannot and will never develop true reasoning skills; what some experts call "system 2 thinking". It's an incredible technology, but once the chaos subsides what you'll see is everyone will finally collectively register what they really are: just another tool.
This is not to say there won't be displacement, there will be. But please refrain from the "doomerism", as things won't be going as asymptote as the doomers are saying. So, please stay calm and rational during these turbulent times. We should be returning to sanity in a few years time.
