Yeeeeah... AI coding has many quirks and limitations. The experience is alternating between being blown away and saving a lot of time and effort... and near freaking out over recurring bugs and the like. And yeah you have to explicitly prompt for things like deduplicating code.
One of the problems is that LLMs are purely reactive. They would need a mode where they work on the code by themselves without any prompt, just checking what needs to be improved. They WILL have to be able to run their code too. Coding blind is obviously very difficult, humans wouldn't be able to do that well either.
