I think self-driving cars are the way the go and in time will greatly reduce the 1.2 million deaths and maybe 5 million serious injuries on the roads a year worldwide but ...
The car was traveling at 5mph above the speed limit. What??? And by the way an extra 5mph is the difference between living and dying in this sort of situation.
A car which I thought was suppose to have LIDAR and Radar didn't see the woman until the last moment? What??? Which means that crossing at a non designated crossing spot is a non issue - you know the LIDAR and the Radar business.
And if the AI is confused about an object the default programming simply cannot be "If your not sure drive over the top of it"
